POWER OUR WORLD ?
The UK and it's surrounding shores has one of the largest renewable and sustainable energy resources in the whole of Europe, so much so that it could provide most of our electricity needs many times over.
Experts have estimated that the world's waves contain two terrawatts of energy, that's 2,000,000,000,000 watts or roughly the equivalent power of 2000 large oil, gas, coal or nuclear power stations.
Despite this very exciting fact, successive governments have failed to face up to this, so energy policy continues to be based on outdated and polluting fuels including ridiculously expensive nuclear energy.
The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC)
The very first centre for testing the latest developments in harnessing wave and tidal power The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) was officially opened 12 Months ago on Orkney in Scotland, and was seen as a real boost to Scotland and the UK's renewable energy industry, the main sites of the project are at switchgear centre at Billia Croo and the main offices and data centre is situated in the Old Academy, in Stromness.
